Sometimes Life Feels Like One Long Fucking Survival Mode
I I wish I could write something pretty about life right now.
Something inspirational.
Something about growth, healing, trusting the process, and believing that everything happens for a reason.
But some days, I don’t believe any of that shit.
Some days, life just feels hard.
Not beautifully hard.
Not “this is shaping me into a stronger person” hard.
Just fucking hard.
The kind of hard that makes you tired in places sleep can’t fix.
The kind that makes you stare at your phone, your ceiling, the wall, anything really, because your brain is too exhausted to process one more thing.
The kind where people keep telling you how strong you are, and instead of feeling proud, you almost want to scream.
Because I don’t want to be strong all the time.
I don’t want to constantly prove that I can survive another heartbreak, another disappointment, another loss, another breakdown, another day where everything feels too heavy.
Sometimes I want life to stop testing me.
Sometimes I want something to just be easy.
I’m tired of being handed lessons I never asked to learn.
I’m tired of losing things I begged life to let me keep.
I’m tired of caring too much, loving too hard, overthinking everything, and pretending that things don’t destroy me when they absolutely fucking do.
There are days I feel like I’m walking around held together by caffeine, dark humor, responsibilities, and pure spite.
I still show up.
I still answer people.
I still handle what needs to be handled.
I still smile when I’m supposed to.
And that’s probably why people don’t always realize how bad things can feel underneath all of it.
They see functioning.
They don’t see surviving.
They don’t see the nights where everything gets quiet and suddenly every thought I avoided all day gets louder.
They don’t see the conversations I replay.
The people I miss.
The things I blame myself for.
The moments I wish I could redo.
The constant question in the back of my head asking whether I’m actually building a life or just becoming really fucking good at surviving one.
That’s the part nobody talks about.
You can be doing everything you’re “supposed” to do and still feel completely lost.
You can love your life and still hate parts of it.
You can be grateful and exhausted at the same time.
You can be surrounded by people and still feel unbelievably alone.
You can be healing and still have nights where you feel like you’ve made absolutely no progress.
Healing is ugly sometimes.
It’s angry.
It’s grieving people who are still alive.
It’s missing someone you know wasn’t good for you.
It’s wondering why you weren’t enough even when you know, logically, that another person’s choices weren’t a measurement of your worth.
It’s watching yourself become colder in places where you used to be soft.
It’s learning boundaries because being understanding nearly destroyed you.
It’s realizing some people only loved the version of you that required nothing from them.
And fuck, that hurts.
Life has a way of taking every weak spot you have and pressing directly into it.
You’re scared of abandonment?
Here’s someone who leaves.
You struggle with trust?
Here’s someone who lies.
You’re already grieving?
Here’s another loss.
You’re exhausted?
Here are ten more things that need your attention.
And somehow you’re still expected to wake up the next morning and function.
So you do.
Not because you’re inspirational.
Not because you woke up full of hope.
Sometimes you do it because there isn’t another option.
Sometimes survival isn’t poetic.
Sometimes it’s brushing your teeth.
Sometimes it’s making it through work.
Sometimes it’s crying in the shower so nobody hears you.
Sometimes it’s sitting in your car for ten extra minutes because you don’t have the energy to walk inside yet.
Sometimes it’s saying, “I’m fine,” because explaining everything would take more energy than you have left.
And maybe that’s where I am right now.
I’m not completely broken.
I’m not completely healed.
I’m somewhere in the fucked-up middle.
Still hurting.
Still trying.
Still angry about some things.
Still grieving others.
Still learning that closure doesn’t always come with an apology.
Still learning that some people can genuinely mean everything to you and still not be meant to stay.
Still learning that loving someone does not guarantee they will know how to love you back.
Still learning that I can miss someone and never want to experience what they put me through again.
Still learning that I’m allowed to be exhausted by the life I fought so hard to keep building.
Maybe one day I’ll look back and understand why everything happened the way it did.
Maybe one day I’ll write about this chapter like it was the moment everything changed.
But right now?
It just fucking hurts.
And I think there should be room to say that without immediately turning it into some motivational speech.
Not every painful moment needs a silver lining.
Sometimes pain is just pain.
Sometimes life is just messy.
Sometimes you’re just tired.
And sometimes the bravest thing you can say is:
I’m having a really fucking hard time right now.
But I’m still here.
Maybe that’s enough for today.
