Apparently, Being Bored Means I Need Another Personality Trait

So, apparently, I have reached a new level of boredom.

Not the normal kind of boredom where you scroll TikTok for three hours, reorganize your closet, or decide your entire house needs to be deep-cleaned at 2 a.m.

No. Apparently, my brain decided that the appropriate response to having absolutely nothing to do was to LEARN AN ENTIRE NEW LANGUAGE.

Because why not?

Some people get bored and take a nap. Some people watch Netflix. Some people go shopping.

Me? I apparently wake up and decide that speaking one language is no longer sufficient for the amount of nonsense I have to say.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how we ended up here.

My Brain Has Never Understood the Concept of Relaxation

Here’s the thing about me: I don’t know how to just exist.

I can work, go to college, raise a toddler, study for paramedic school, maintain approximately 47 different thought processes simultaneously, and somehow STILL find myself sitting there thinking:

“I’m bored. I need something to do.”

MA’AM. YOU HAVE PLENTY TO DO.

There are assignments waiting to be completed. Laundry that probably needs folding. A sleep schedule that desperately needs professional intervention. And about a million other responsibilities.

But does my brain want to address any of those things?

Absolutely not.

My brain wants to learn Spanish.

Because apparently, the chaos wasn’t chaotic enough in English.

Welcome to My Latest Side Quest

So now, here I am, learning vocabulary, practicing pronunciation, figuring out grammar rules, and trying to understand why some words are masculine and others are feminine.

I barely understand people when they’re speaking English, and somehow I’ve convinced myself that adding Spanish to the equation is going to improve the situation.

And let’s not even discuss pronunciation.

One minute, I’m confidently saying “Hola, ¿cómo estás?”

The next minute, I’m staring at a sentence wondering why the letters are arranged like that and questioning every decision that led me to this moment.

But am I going to quit?

Absolutely not.

Because once I get an idea in my head, I become emotionally invested in seeing just how far I can take it.

Today, it’s learning basic Spanish.

Tomorrow, I’ll probably be researching how to become fluent in six months.

By next week, I’ll have convinced myself I need to visit Spain for educational purposes.

It’s called personal development. Mind your business.

The Funny Thing About Boredom

I think boredom is a dangerous thing for people like me.

Not because we can’t find anything to do, but because our brains start inventing entirely new responsibilities the second life gets remotely quiet.

Give me five minutes of peace, and suddenly I’m considering a new degree, another certification, a new hobby, rearranging my entire future, or learning a language.

And honestly?

I kind of love that about myself.

As ridiculous as it sounds, there’s something beautiful about still wanting to learn.

About being an adult with an already overflowing schedule and still finding something that makes you curious.

About realizing that life doesn’t have to stop being interesting just because you’re busy surviving it.

Maybe learning another language won’t change my entire life.

Or maybe one day I’ll be standing in the back of an ambulance, communicating with a patient in Spanish, and realize that this random moment of boredom actually turned into something meaningful.

That’s the thing about my chaotic little brain.

Sometimes the most random decisions become the most useful ones.

But Let’s Be Serious for a Second

I am a grown woman with bills, responsibilities, a child, college classes, and approximately three functioning brain cells left by the end of the day.

And somehow, I have voluntarily assigned myself MORE HOMEWORK.

Nobody asked me to do this.

Nobody forced me.

There is no prize waiting at the finish line.

I literally just got bored and decided that my life needed subtitles.

At this point, I don’t need another hobby.

I need someone to confiscate my internet access every time I say, “You know what would be fun?”

Because those six words have never once resulted in anything normal.

A Little Reminder From the Girl Behind the Chaos

Life is already complicated enough.

Sometimes you have to find the humor in the weird little things you do to keep yourself entertained.

Sometimes growth looks like healing, making difficult decisions, or finally choosing yourself.

And sometimes growth looks like sitting in your pajamas at an ungodly hour, aggressively practicing Spanish vocabulary because your brain decided sleep was optional and becoming bilingual was suddenly a priority.

Both count.

So here’s to the people who can’t sit still, whose curiosity never shuts off, and who turn five minutes of boredom into a six-month educational commitment.

May we eventually learn how to relax.

But until then…

Hola, amigos. Soy Jessie. Estoy cansada, pero aparentemente no lo suficiente como para dejar de aprender cosas nuevas.

Translation: Hi, friends. I’m Jessie. I’m tired, but apparently not tired enough to stop learning new things.

And honestly, that might be the most accurate description of my life I’ve ever written.

With love, caffeine, questionable decisions, and a rapidly expanding Spanish vocabulary,

The Girl Behind the Chaos 🖤

P.S. If I randomly start speaking Spanish in the middle of a conversation, just go with it. I’m trying to get my money’s worth out of this free education I assigned myself.
